Light Night Worcester 2021 Commissions - Artist call out

About Light Night Worcester 2021.

Following the success of Worcester’s very first light night that received an enthusiastic welcome from 1000s of attendees, Light Night Worcester 2021 will be taking place across the city for 3 nights on 20th, 21st, 22nd, January 2021.

Light Night is part of The Arches festivals’ programme, delivered by Severn Arts as part of the wider The Arches Worcester project, which is supported by the Department of Culture Media and Sports’ Cultural Development Fund, administered by Arts Council England.

About the opportunity

We are seeking to commission a selection of artists to create a number of projection-based new works for Light Night Worcester 2021.

The work must be accessible to all members of the public and respond directly to the festival theme of “Future”. The work must be ready to be installed ahead of Light Night Worcester in January 2021 and will run from 6pm – 11pm each evening over 21st, 22nd, 23rd January 2021. Your work must last the duration of each evening either continuously as one piece or looped.

The chosen proposals will be produced in conjunction with the Arches Festivals team. The work must be new and original and not something that has taken place before. We are seeking proposals from a broad range of digital artists at a range of scales from larger pieces of work to the micro.

We are open to creative ways in which audiences could engage with your work via digital devices, such as their phones or tablets.

How to apply

Please submit your creative response to the above brief and include:

  • A detailed budget for the making of the work including artist fees.
  • A separate budget detailing projection/technical delivery costs (if these are known).

At Severn Arts we are committed to improving our sustainability, please also include a line in your submission detailing how you will make the project with this in mind.

To arrange an informal chat about the opportunity or to submit your initial creative responses contact:

David Edmunds, Festivals Director at [email protected] by 15th July 2020. No more than two sides of A4 to outline the project plus visuals/films/video links to your other work.

Ideas we feel fit with our theme will be taken into development and worked up into production with the festivals production department under the creative guidance of the Festivals Director. Chosen projects will then be produced during the autumn ahead of the festival in January 2021.
